Undersea: Manta Rays

Here you will find my collection of photos from diving with manta rays in Hawaii.

The dives were at a cleaning station so these mantas will visit this area of reef to be cleaned by a variety of much smaller reef fish in a mutually beneficial relationship; the fish get to eat and the mantas get to be cleaned and stay healthy.

At night, lights are placed on the floor and at the surface, for snorkelers, which attracts phytoplankton for the mantas to feed on. As you go through these photos look how the physical body of the mantas opens up as they feed, allowing you to even see through them in some photos.
